What would you do with your Twitter account if they multiplied the character limit by tenfold? Would you write more or would you simply stp usng slly abbrevs? You could embed many more URLs without having to use a link shortener to do so. You could express yourself more eloquently, although I think that should be possible with 140 characters, anyway. Woofer低音 barks at Twitter and gives you that tenfold increase. Plenty of space for rewoofs and commentary from your followers.

Of course, what would be really interesting is if they reduced the character limit by ten times, so that you only had 14 characters in which to get your message across. That's 2-3 words at most with spaces and no room for a link at all, let alone the option for someone to retweet you and add their two-cents (or tuppence for older Brits) worth.

In writing this blog post, I used Woofer's “What are you doing?” box, which asserts that you must use a minimum of 14 characters. When I reach the fullstop at the end of this particular sentence, I will have just two hundred and thirty two characters to go before I have fulfilled the space-filling requirements of Woofer's system.

woofer-vs-tweeter

Of course, anyone using Woofer can write more if they so wish, but 1400 characters is a nice round number and has a certain doggy resonance with one's tweets, which, as you know, have a 140 character limit like SMS cellphone messages. Have I有我

Hat tip to Humer公司 @libram @圣契 for bringing Woofer to my attention.

The original post without html markup is precisely 1400 characters…and yes, the ending is deliberately truncated…

I just found out about Woofer. I found something very interesting; most “woofers” did not have more 1 or 2 woofs and all of those same people as “twitterers” had more than 50 tweets! So I think people have a lot to say in 140 and not as much in 1400. :)

@Pooj I think Woofer and their concept of macro-blogging are just a tongue-in-cheek twist on twitter. I doubt anyone will take it seriously to be honest, there are so many other places where one can ramble on at any length without being forced to fill up 1400 characters我相信没有人会认真诚实,有这么多其他地方的任何长度的,可漫步于不必被迫以填补1400个字符 ;-)
