Windows XP Can Be So Moving
March 5th, 2007 · by David Bradley
Want a nice right-click dialog box that will allow you to move (or copy) files to any of a set of folders on your Windows machine that you care to specify, either in advance or on-the-fly? Well, Moon Software’s FileTargets could be the answer. It’s been around for several years and I used to use it on previous Win98 machines without any problems.
The program adds a nice sub-menu with all your favorite folder names to the context-menu of all files and folders in your system so you can copy/move selected files to pre-defined, most used folders with the click of a mouse. FileTargets menu is similar to the standard SendTo menu but is much more advanced since it allows you to create subgroups, automatically add new folders, copy file path names and much more and it’s allows you to “explore” rather than the stifling “browse” from that context.
But, when I upgraded my business laptop to XP, I discovered that the Moon had gone down. It seems that it’s one of those bits of software that XP sees fit to label as unacceptable to its file management system, or whatever.
Anyway, I wasted a lot of time looking for a fix, found one, and then after an unrelated system break down (I blame ntl netguard for that, don’t ever install it), I discovered that FileTargets was no longer working and I couldn’t find the fix again. D’oh! Thankfully, Moon S/W has now updated FileTargets and the current version 1.4.1 works just fine, without the fix.
