What have you downloaded lately?

The “What Have You Downloaded?” service, does what it says on the tin, checks for the presence of your computer’s IP address in records leached from the Bit Torrent networks and shows them to all and sundry. It’s what the copyright claimants have been doing for years, anyway, and there’s really no privacy breach, in fact it’s a useful tool to find out if anyone on your network has been illicitly downloading stuff and/or checking that your private torrent trackers or anonymizing software is working properly.

I ran the check and got this message:

“We have no records on you.”

Something of a relief. Shows we’re clean. At least on the IP address we are currently connected to the internet with. We have a dynamic IP, which changes only if the modem is switched off for more than a week or so, which it rarely is. Give it a try, see what you’ve been downloading…

The creators of the site are on record as saying: “We don’t bother ourselves to separate dynamic IPs. The site is just for show. However we have time-stamps. 3.3.3.3 might be a dynamic IP – however it belonged to a certain person at 12:12am 12/12/2011.”
