What a Twit
August 13th, 2009 by David Bradley >> No Comments
Some time ago, I installed a neat WordPress plugin – WordTwit – that lets you shorten your own web links without losing your branding. So instead of http://bit.ly/QLQuO or http://tr.im/usKs you get a link that looks like this http://sciencetext.com/Hg. That’s the link to my original post about WordTwit, by the way. (Except of course something has gone awry with it and those links are not working today).
WordTwit isn’t just about shortening links, of course. As it’s name would suggest it’s a tool for Twittering. And, it Twitters very well. Publish a post and almost instantaneously it will send the title and your shortened link to your Twitter account, provided you’ve set it up to do so. It’s a much faster and automated process than waiting for a third-party application to poll your blog’s RSS feed.
The plugin also has the distinct advantage of providing some analytics, so once those links have been shortened, you can also find out which were the most popular. So in the tradition of countless blog posts written just before the blogger goes on vacation, here’s a top ten of Sciencetext’s popular WordTwit links:
- Riding the Google Wave http://sciencetext.com/Sz
- Shorten Your URLs http://sciencetext.com/Hg
- Publish Your Blog on Kindle http://sciencetext.com/DX
- I Won’t Follow You on Twitter If… http://sciencetext.com/64
- Trouble with Sex on the Internet http://sciencetext.com/V5
- Geek Chart http://sciencetext.com/iA
- China Blocks Twitter http://sciencetext.com/Gy
- Google Wave Singularity University http://sciencetext.com/p6
- Bing Is Not Google http://sciencetext.com/n9
- Metallica, Napster, and Marx http://sciencetext.com/uh
Hopefully, that little lot will give you an idea of the diversity of tech tips and topics covered on Sciencetext over the last few weeks.
