I just ran the web logs for the SciScoop Science News Forum and quite bizarrely the report generated shows the average page views per day to two decimal places, same goes for the average hits per visitor. So, this log software is somehow assuming the possibility of a partial page view. How might that happen? A visitor hits the site but looks away before the page is fully loaded? That could give is fractional page views, certainly. But, and it’s a big but! How would the browser record the visitor’s head turning away? Unless of course, webcams are logging the angle of dangle of every visitor’s head when they visit the site…
