Tuning into Ping.fm

ping-fm-logoPing.fm is a neat tool for updating your online social networks all at once. I got an invite some time back from my good friend, Eye on DNA blogger Hsien Lei, but have only just started using it, selectively, of course.

Currently, you can update the following services all at once with link updates, “tweets”, and pings of all kinds:

Facebook, MySpace, Identi.ca, Brightkite, FriendFeed, Jaiku, Blogger, Plaxo Pulse, LiveJournal, Bebo, hi5, Mashable, Xanga, Rejaw, Friendster, Yahoo 360, Koornk, Diigo, YouAre, Multiply, Yammer, Flickr, Utterli, Twitter, Pownce, Plurk, LinkedIn, Tumblr, del.icio.us, Kwippy, Wordpress

It’s best not to oversaturate your networks repeatedly though and instead use ping.fm for those shout outs you really want all your contacts to see and then check out the live conversations at the sites themselves and respond when appropriate.

More interestingly even than the diverse range of social networks you can ping with ping.fm is the fact that you can ping using the following applications: Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, AOL instant messenger, email, your iPhone, an iGoogle gadget, Facebook, and mobile wap. So, what are you waiting for? Tune into Ping.fm now, but don’t confuse it with an internet radio station.
