Threats and hospitality

November 24th, 2011 by David Bradley >> No Comments

Having such a common name I seem to get a lot of misdirected messages to my GMail account where the sender overlooked some part of the address. Most recently a person claiming to be Aaron Therkleson from showroom sales at a New Zealand company called Southern Hospitality emailed their client the following, but it ended up inadvertently in my mailbox:

Good afternoon sir, I have uncovered a huge account that is way overdue… I will need your first born and or your wife to cover this massive amount…I will send the lads over soon

It’s very funny isn’t it? I assume that another “David Bradley” has bought a coffee plunger, apron or chef knives from the company and is yet to pay their bill. But, what if I were of thinner skin, a weaker disposition, I might be rather concerned with such a direct threat to my family for the sake of an oustanding debt with a presumably reputable company. Apparently, his email was scanned with “Mail Marshall”, didn’t scan it for stupidity though, did it?

I wrote back to Aaron Therkleson to let him know I would be contacting the police with regard to his threat and to ensure that a full investigation of the company’s business practices would be carried out. I’ll also ensure they get a stuffed horse head in their bed if they email me again ;-)
