Take a look at this infographic highlighted recently on Problogger and then see what I did with the title of this blog post to exploit the three aspects of the graphic that are important for driving traffic to your website or blog. It’s an insider joke really, but it does occasionally work, as long as you don’t exploit the approach too often.

Put simply, the graphic suggests tailoring your headline to include a top # list described with a superlative and significant historical context.

LOL Marketing is marketing. Lots of papers throughout scientific history have used those kinds of techniques to draw in readers. I reckon you could look to Faraday as an early master of the art of communicating more than the paper…
