Latest technology finds:

  • Microsoft set to release Windows Live Essentials 2011 later today – The freebie package of tools for Windows users is scheduled for release September 30 and will include final release versions of – Windows Live Movie Maker, Mail, Messenger, Writer, Sync, and Family Safety
  • Fake LinkedIn invites lead to ZeuS Trojan – Here's another reason to use LinkedIn the way they say you should use and not accept invites from people you don't really know! Trojan attack. I've written about LinkedIn spammers on Sciencetext before, but this new wave are scammers not spammers…
  • Head in the clouds? – Forget blue sky thinking…here's a good reason not to have your head in the cloud(s): Xmarks sync to be discontinued. Free cloud-based browser synchronization service XMarks (formerly Foxmarks) will be shutting its servers on January 10, 2011. Grab your bookmarks and password backup now and find an alternative service. Google is not likely to be going anywhere soon, so sync your bookmarks with their servers instead. And, perhaps print off your passwords and lock them in your safety deposit box just in case.
  • Most people just like to watch – Despite the emergence of the so-called web 2.0 paradigm, most people on the web are not creators, commenters, and connectors, they just like to watch, read and enjoy the stuff other people post and display.
  • Live Spaces moving to WordPress – Ready yourself if you have a Microsoft Live Spaces website: Microsoft is shutting all 30 million sites down (but offering migration to WordPress as an option)
  • For the umpteenth time, copy ‘protection’ only hurts people who actually buy your product – When will the suits get this point into their tiny money-grubbing brains?
