SQT: Wordpress Image Uploader
July 12th, 2008 · by David Bradley
If, like me, you’ve upgraded to the latest version of Wordpress for your blog, then you will no doubt have used the spiffy new image uploader. Unless you don’t have a Wordpres blog or post images, of course. Anyway, in the current version of WP, the uploader allows one to upload images to the appropriate folder, but sometimes it won’t let you actually insert the code into the post. I looked everywhere for an answer, having tried an alt browser (IE much to my chagrin), updating Flash, rebooting the site, everything.
But, it turns out to be something rather silly and simple. To make sure you don’t get the blank screen of doom in Wordpress image uploader, ensure that the post editing page is the only open tab in your browser. Suddenly, inserting an image into your post is possible once again. Of course, I could have manually hard-coded it, but why would I want to do that when there’s an auto option?

Now, if you want a *really* cool uploader, you gotta be using Windows Live Writer. Drag and drop images from your computer or a Web site — that’s slick.
Andrews last blog post..Is it Photoshop?
I’m a firm believer in “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” philosophy. I still have not upgraded my WP install. Still works great.
Like Andrew, I’m also starting to use Windows Live Writer for the editor. I’m still using WinSCP to upload files.
Rudys last blog post..Sneaky Advertising - the future?
Ah, but Rudy, Wordpress prior to 2.5.1 is broken…there are lots of security bugs that have laid open many a fellow blogger to being hacked, without wishing to scaremonger it could only be a matter of time. That said, I stayed with a much earlier version on my science blog for months and months not wishing to upgrade.
