Speeding

June 7th, 2005 · by David Bradley

Ironic that on a day I pay a speeding fine (no excuses I know but it was a clear road, a clear day and I shouldn’t have slipped the clutch), the British government announces its plans for a mileage tax. The BBC (of course) reports the news quite eloquently at BBC news.

In it they mention one scheme would lead to an overall increase in road speed of 5 kmh and state that is 3mph. Well, regular readers will have anticipated what I think of that. 5kmh is nearer 3.106856 mph. Now, I know that adding significant figures to their 5mph is ludicrous, but surely they could have “about 3mph” instead.
