Significant Birthdays
May 7th, 2007 · by David Bradley
PaulSadowski.org is an intriguing site for numerophiles with an interest in anniversaries. Tap in your chosen date, birthdays make a good start, and the site spews out all kinds of useless yet somehow fascinating information relating to that date. Ignore the talismanic info and the astrological cr*p and you have some really useful factoids to use in nerdy chat-up lines. For instance, it turns out my wife was born in the Chinese year of the snake, and shares her birthday with Jacky Benny. Fascinating.
But, far more significant than that is that she was (at the I checked) 31708828 seconds older than me. Amazing. But, obviously wrong. Yes, we were born a year and two days apart, but the site does not allow you to tap in your actual time of birth as well as your birthday, which is a shame, as I am sure it would add a few extra seconds to that age gap if it did. She always tells her friends I’m her “toy boy”; greater precision would be much appreciated Mr Sadowski to help her validate her claim.
Meanwhile, if you’re looking for the most accurate portable clock ever, check out the May issue of Intute Spotlight, online next week, in which I discuss the methods scientists are using to network optical clocks that are accurate to second in a billion years. Now, that’s precision.
