USB 3.0 is set for launch early in 2008 and will operate using fiber optic alongside the copper wire connections. Speeds will be up by ten times, giving a theoretical maximum speed of 4.8 Gigabits per second. Plenty fast enough to run almost any application of a USB drive, an external hard drive, or other USB device.
