rapidshare-hacksYour internet service provider (ISP) may be throttling your file-sharing software, particularly if you’re using Bit Torrent downloads, even if the files you are sharing are perfectly legal. Worse still, your ISP could be handing over your personal data to the RIAA right now, again, even if you are only using such systems for legal file shares. So, what to do?

Well, one system, Rapidshare, could be the answer. Unfortunately, there are two big problems with Rapidshare (i) There is no way to search for files, (ii) Premium service with no download delays costs money. So, for example, if you wanted to download a particular Linux distro, or some other big file, that was on Rapidshare, first you’d have to know it was there and you’d then have to pay to download it as quickly as possible.

Martin over on gHacks, always, has the answer. He offers readers a critically tested list of Rapidshare search engines, and perhaps more usefully so do the comments – rapidlibrary.com looks like a particularly straightforward Rapidshare search engine. Most importantly, though, Martin has several Rapidshare timelimit hacks.

The simplest, which was originally posted on computerhelpforum.org involves, finding your file, clicking on free download, and then overwriting the URL that appears in your browser address bar – “javascript:alert(c=1)” (without the quotes). Hit enter, and then “OK” the popup that appears, it should then disappear leaving you with a captcha to complete and an instant download.

Isn’t Javascript enabled in IE by default? Tools –> Internet Options –> Security: Custom Level, Scripting, Enable Scripting –> Close All, Relaunch
