- Dropbox security – I've touted DropBox a little recently, it's a very useful tool. But, I would never use it to store anything sensitive unless fully encrypted using a third-party tool. This is especially important now that a security loophole has been discovered. I am sure the creators of DropBox will be working on this, but in the meantime: Protect your data: use strong encryption to protect sensitive data stored in your Dropbox and protect your passphrase (do not store your passphrase in your Dropbox or on the same system/device). Be diligent about removing old systems from your list of authorized systems within Dropbox. Also, monitor the “Last Activity” time listed on the My Computers list within Dropbox. If you see a system checking in that shouldn’t be, unlink it immediately.
- Disguising True Crypt Volumes In MP4 Videos – TCSteg uses steganography to hide a TrueCrypt container within a playable MP4 video file. This app was released long before TCHunt and defeats any attempt trace hidden TrueCrypt containers with known tools.
- Legal disclaimers in email signatures are annoying and meaningless – Remember when every second usenet post was a complaint about the previous post having too long a .sig and wasting bandwidth? No? Well, you're obviously very young or nowhere near as geeky as me. Anyway, email signatures are annoying if they're long-winded regardless of bandwidth and if they make any kind of legal claims about recipients and privacy, then they're also spherex2 (balls in other words).
- TCHunt uncovers hidden TrueCrypt volumes – If you thought you were safe hiding private files in a hidden TrueCrypt volume, think again, TCHunt can scan a hard drive and uncover the program's hidden, but still encrypted, folders.
- Free books for your Kindle – Stacks of free books for your Kindle or Kindle app (on iPad, PC, whatever)
- Dropboxifier, move folders to Dropbox – A little app that lets you relocate your settings and other folders on DropBox so that you have a cloud backup and/or a way to access the settings from any computer (e.g. Firefox settings, game save folders, mail folders etc).
