Microsoft Photo Info Tool

January 25th, 2007 · by David Bradley

Been dying to add, change and delete common “metadata” properties in your digital photographs but didn’t know how to? Well, Microsoft Photo Info is a new software add-in launched this week for Microsoft Windows that can supposedly do just that from within Windows Explorer. The blurb from MS also says it provides enhanced “hover tips” and additional sort properties for digital photographs in Explorer (in Details view).

“The Photo Info dialog enables you to edit both EXIF and IPTC information in compatible image formats as either a single image or a collection,” says the excellent digital photography site DPReview.com. It’s XP and Vista compatible and can be downloaded here for free. As with most Windows downloads these days, there’ll be a validation step to check that you’re using a legitimate copy of Windows before you’ll be able to get the program. But, that shouldn’t be a problem for ScienceText.com readers should it?

The only trouble is, once I’d installed it and right clicked a photo in Windows Explorer I got a C++ runtime error, so I’ve no way of knowing whether this program is any more useful than the tools built into the likes of Photoshop or not.

Meanwhile, a word to the wise: Some businesses find Microsoft exchange server hosting is very useful, because a Microsoft exchange server lets you access email from anywhere, so pays for itself in time saved.
