  • Your computer is far safer than you think – Even if you're not running antivirus, antispyware or a firewall you're probably fairly safe on your computer, according to a "Which?" report where they connected various PCs to the internet and saw no infections. Of course, head off to some of the seedier sites and you'll soon discover why you really ought to have installed AV. But, on closer inspection you can see that Which only tested one PC for a month without AV, that’s not at all a scientific approach. FAIL. Get AV!
  • Excessive Internet use may be linked to depression – The headline said "excessive", but who's to say what's excessive? An hour or two, 10 hours, once a week? Apparently, there is a tribe in the Pacific where the mean have 21 orgasms a week, would you call *that* excessive. More to the point, are they more or less depressed than excessive internet users? Does one cause the other, what are their serotonin levels like? What if the two aspects of behavior are tied together? Excessive internet use and excessive orgasms…
  • Why do you count the website visitors who don’t count? – Let's start by concentrating on the visitors who matter – we call them the "engaged" visitors. For many sites, they're the only people that matter. People who take a quick glance and leave either made you a few cents on an AdSense click or are simply irrelevant. Create an engaged visitor filter for your analytics – someone who is "engaged" will have spent at least 30 seconds on your site and/or visited at least two pages. That cuts the thousands of daily visitors to hundreds of engaged visitors each day on this site and probably would do the same if you tested your site too.
