Improving Your Netflix Rental Experience

July 30th, 2007 · by David Bradley

Netflix rentalWant to get more out of your Netflix rental experience? I’m not talking about Netflix cheating or anything, which could be a whole separate article in itself and one I am sure the more savvy among you could write yourselves. Instead, I’m thinking about how you might use your handheld device, a Blackberry for instance, to work with your Netflix rental account.

EasyReach, which is freeware, could be the application you are looking for. It is designed to handle mobile shopping, remote PC access and desktop search from a handheld device, and also offers pay-as-you-go access to various online retailers. You can, for example, buy gifts for someone in your address book, buy items from Amazon, or, most importantly from our point of view add a DVD to your Netflix rental queue. There are currently 70,000 movie titles on the Netflix books and if you don’t have an account already you can get a free trial by signing up from within EasyReach itself. One reviewer described the Netflix rental capability of EasyReach as “awesome“; not perhaps the most descriptive of reviews, but you do get a sense of how impressed they were by the application.

You can download EasyReach here. There are various other applications that make using netflix easier too: NetflixQ is a widget that allows you to monitor your Netflix queue, but Netflixter perhaps has the edge as it not only allows you to manage your Netflix account but you can read reviews and information from the Internet Movie Database (IMDB).

If you are wondering how to watch DVDs on your iPhone once you’ve been through the Netflix rental process, then check out my earlier post on converters, AnyDVD, and codecs.
