How Twitter bots might help you connect

A group of Web researchers has created a new type of Twitter bot, dubbed a "socialbot," that rather than simply spamming the social networking site and annoying everyone can actually serve as virtual social connectors, speeding up the natural rate of human-to-human communication.
The bots are designed to convince real users into thinking that the bot is also a like-minded twitter user and so transparently improve connections between real users. (Marketing types and brand-awareness gurus watch out).
Of course, one has to wonder sometimes whether the 99% (of Twitter) is actually just bots tweeting and retweeting each other…
