How to Split and Merge PDF files

June 25th, 2007 · by David Bradley

Lots of times I receive PDF versions of the articles I write for online and offline magazines as PDF documents. Very nice, yes. I can store them away in my virtual portfolio for all eternity, or at least until the hard drive fails. However, there are times, when it would be nice to pull out my small contribution and remove all the “scaffolding” the cover story, the editorials, the readers letters etc…

In steps, PDF Split and Merge. It does exactly what it says on the tin. It splits and merges PDF documents. What’s more it is free and open source, so it won’t even cost me a penny to remove all that scaffolding. That not only means I can save a smaller PDF with just the bits pertinent to me, but if anyone ever asks to see samples of my work, I have a snappier file with only my bylined bits to send. It is also pretty useful for merging longer articles that turn up as separate PDF files, one for each page.

I am sure there are 1001 other uses for this tool. Why not tell us how you would like to split and merge your PDFs.
