Hacking Your MySpace

March 26th, 2008 · by David Bradley

MySpace Logo“Jordan” emailed Sig Figs with a problem he couldn’t solve relating to his MySpace account. It’s probably something a lot of web 2.0 users will face at some point in their surfing.

“Hi Someone got on to my MySpace account and changed my password so when I tried to sign in again I couldn’t. Will you please help me I really need to get back into my MySpace account. Thanks.”

Jordan didn’t go into specifics and he tells me that he emailed MySpace but didn’t yet receive a reply. I’m not entirely sure how someone could have changed his password without his knowledge unless there was a serious security breach at MySpace. But, he confessed to having not set an alternate email address on his account, so he cannot get the password reminder sent. Even if he had set a secondary address, someone changing his password would more than likely have changed that too.

So Jordan, I’m afraid the bottom line is you’re stuck. Unless you can get through to MySpace technical support and convince them of who you are, there is probably nothing you can do. I am certainly not fulfilling your request to hack into MySpace, even if I could, that would be illegal. Your plight highlights the importance of ensuring you keep a tight grip on your web 2.0 accounts and passwords. But, think of it this way, at least you’ve got a chance now to abandon MySpace and start a fresh page at Facebook or Pownce!
