Facebook privacy and ads

You wouldn’t want your personal info showing up in a Facebook ad or third-party app would you? Even if it were only displayed to ads shown to friends…
Apparently, Facebook does not give third-party applications or advertising networks any rights to use your name or picture in advertisements. But…
“If this is allowed in the future, this setting will govern the usage of your information.”
The very fact that there’s an option for this in your privacy settings would suggest that they may enable this function at some point. Indeed, rumors have abounded recently that there is an issue, although Facebook specifically denies these rumors as “misleading”. Regardless, protect your privacy now.

Go into your Facebook “Settings”, choose Privacy Settings from the dropdown menu and then the “News Feed and Wall” item. Then, choose the “Facebook Ads” tab. For the “Allow ads on platform pages to show my information to” option select “no one” and Save Changes. Then, scroll down to “Show my social actions in Facebook Ads to” and again select no one. Save Changes.

Okay. We’re all private now, although why a third-part app or advertiser would want to use my ugly mug in their marketing campaign I really don’t know

Glad to see this setting finally appearing on FB. Majority of facebook users blindly use third party applications without knowing that their personal information is leaking.
