DropBox is a magic pocket for your files

May 10th, 2011 by David Bradley >> No Comments

This video shows how DropBox acts as a cross-platform magic pocket so that you can access all your essential files from any computer (almost) anywhere in the world. Everything in your DropBox folder on your computer is synced with DropBox online (encrypted of course, so use a strong password).

One thing, if your DropBox account were ever accessed illicitly and someone deleted your files on their servers, the deletions would propagate to your computer, so make sure you have a standalone backup of all important data. DropBox support engineer Graham Abbott told me that: “If a user’s web account is compromised and files are deleted, the files would also be removed from the user’s hard drive,” he says. “This is how Dropbox’s sync fundamentally works. However, Dropbox keeps a one-month history of your work (unlimited history for Pro customers with Packrat and Dropbox for Teams), so the files could be recovered in a couple of clicks.”

DropBox gives you 2 gigabytes of cloud storage free, which you can then increase by completing various tasks, such as hooking up your Facebook and Twitter accounts. You can also get more space if you sign up through someone else’s referral link, so please sign up and download the DropBox app via the Sciencetext link – http://db.tt/y2Iliwb and we both get an extra 250Mb of DropBox cloud backup space for our files.
