Doubling Up Cut and Paste in Firefox

August 8th, 2007 · by David Bradley

How many times have you wished you could paste more than a single line into a search box or form in your browser? Well, now you can thanks to this very quick Firefox hack. Actually it is not a hack at all it is just a settings tweak.

Okay. So, open a new tab in FF (Control T), go to the address bar (Control L) and type about:config and hit the return key. Filter the config page that appears using this singleline as the keyword. You should see just one entry. editor.singleLine.pasteNewlines. Double click it and change the value from 1 to 2.

Now, you should be able to paste two lines from your clipboard into an FF search box or form even if the website displays only a single line. Very useful if you want to search for a text snippet that has had a linebreak inserted by an email program, for instance. But, there are many other times when you will find this tweak indispensable.
