Cuil Not So Cool
August 6th, 2008 · by David Bradley >> Leave a comment
David Bradley and was at first impressed with the results until I took a closer look and realised that they are bullshit.
There are links to my pages, links to other pages about people who share my name, which seems okay. But, the descriptions and graphics seem to be randomly placed. So that the link to my LinkedIn profile has the right link and description but shows a picture of David Bradley the actor from the Harry Potter movies who I’ve mentioned on Sciencetext before.
There are other examples of such problems. There is a link to another 1970s American actor called David Bradley about whom I’ve never heard before, but the image is from one of my recent Sciencebase posts! Again, there some ludicrous picture of what looks like Dame Judy Dench standing next to a dressed up horse accompanying a link and description to my post about the MMR vaccine. I could go on. The whole page of results is a mess, click the image to see the gory details.
So, while some might be touting Cuil as a cool Google killer, on the basis of what I’ve seen so far, I cannot see that happening any time soon.
