Alltop Geeks Out
March 13th, 2008 · by David Bradley
NEWSFLASH - Sig Figs’ partner site - Sciencebase.com - is listed among the founding partners in the Alltop Science section right above NYT Science and next to Sciencefriday. You can find the science section itself under the “GEEKERY” tag on the homepage.
Alltop, this week, officially launched as a news aggregation site with a difference. Positioning itself as an “online magazine rack” it delivers “all the top” stories for forty of the most popular topics on the Web. The headlines and first paragraph of the five most recent stories from forty to eighty sources for each topic are displayed. Alltop stories are refreshed approximately every ten minutes.
The site was created by A-list blogger Guy Kawasaki and his colleagues and they describe their main goal as being “to satisfy the information needs of the 99% of Internet users who will never use an RSS feed reader or create a custom page.” It’s like “aggregation without the aggravation”, Kawasaki says. So, if you’ve never seen the point of those little orange icons that litter blogs and countless websites, check out Alltop for a different way to grab the latest news.
