194 Bugs Fixed in Wordpress 2.6
July 18th, 2008 · by David Bradley
Well, most Wordpress users will be aware by now (because of the dashboard alert, at least) that version 2.6 of their favorite blogging software was just unleashed into the wild. The release happened a month ahead of schedule, although I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing yet. Needless to say Sciencetext is up to speed, remember: Now is the time to upgrade Wordpress.
Anyway, for those curious as to possible benefits of upgrading yet again, here are a few reasons (in addition to staying up to date for the sake of it and for the sake of site security) why you might want to upgrade to Wordpress version 2.6
And to summarise:
- Post Revisions: Wiki-like tracking of edits - Wordpress now keeps drafts (and warns you if you edit a post in a separate window for which you’ve got a more recent version saved).
- Press This!: Post from wherever you are on the web - kind of does what Flock, FriendFeed, Facebook, Tumblr, and Delicious do, but within your own blog.
- Shift Gears: Turbo-speed your blogging - Wordpress now works offline thanks to (Google) Gears.
- Theme Previews: See it before your audience does - this has long been something I’ve wanted to see in Wordpress, essential for those redesigning their blog.
- Word count - does what it says on the tin.
- Image captions - ditto.
- New image control system allows easier inserting, floating, and resizing all in the WYSYWYG editor
- Plugin update notification bubble, flags up upgrade alerts for plugins.

Yeah, wordpress takes advantages on Google Gear, now I can do more on Google Gear than just using it with Google Reader.

Thanks for all this interesting information, will make it easier for us to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress.
As usual, some of the plug-ins might cause some problems until the latest release/update is made available.
Thanks for your help and sharing.

The list of updates certainly look impressive. I like the instant Post This thing, which I would probably use quite a lot…

right now i am using WP2.5 and i still thinking if I will update my blog. and i think upgrading 2.6 is better because of so many bugs fixed on new version.

I had to abandon a couple of plugins in making the upgrade to 2.5, but that was no big loss really, it’s always worth periodically going minimal with bloated outdated plugins

I’m still one of the hold-out to WP upgrades. The thought of checking my plugins and Theme compatibility with 2.6 are daunting.
WP needs to change version to 3.0 before I can commit to a major overhaul.

Yeah, the thought is daunting and I’m not sure whether there are actually any significant security reasons to take the step from 2.5 to 2.6, but I did it anyway.
