Make the Most of Your USB Thumb Drive
May 2nd, 2007 · by David Bradley
Got a USB key? Already added your favorites file? A few photos? Your passwords list? Wondering what else to do with it besides adding the U3 version of Firefox and Thunderbird?
Lifehacker as a great list of the top ten tricks for making the most of your USB thumb drive.
Some of them could be very useful, some of them are fun, others…well I don’t personally see the point, but you just might:
1. Boot a separate operating system - have fun with a mini Linux installation
2. Encrypt your drive - obvious and essential
3. Make a portable MP3 player - hmmm…not got iPod?
4. Speed up or lock down Vista - Vista, who cares?
5. Never forget it - always do
6. Quick launch your workspace - boring
7. Assemble a PC repair kit - essential
8. Put on the DemocraKey “computer condom” - possibly essential
9. Sync your data - yeah, good
10. Assign custom icons - why bother?
So there you go, if you’ve got a USB key, thumb drive, pen drive, or whatever you want to call it, you really have not excuse but to start procrastinating right now, thanks Lifehacker! Another day of getting no work done…

There’s a new product coming out that’s an Out-of-Range Alarm for USB Thumb Drives. It reminds you if you leave your Thumb Drive behind in a computer.
